The Romance Addict

I'm a student from Kolkata, India. I was barely 3 yrs old when I first read a book and since then there has been no stopping me when it comes to books.I'm not just obsessed about books.I have other hobbies(skating, painting) and ambitions(I'm studying to be a comp sci. engineer and someday make my parents really really proud of me).But BOOKS are something I have always been passionate about. I've learned so much from them.Reading a book is like entering a whole new world. It gave me dreams, hope and friends. And IMO, there is nothing else that someone needs when they have a great book with them. Ok, say maybe I'm a little obsessed. Reading has given me so much. So, I figure writing reviews on the books I read is my way of thanking the community. It is something I can give back. It is my way of helping the authors & publishers so that they keep writing & publishing wonderful books. I don't promise to always write a review for every book I read or as soon as I read, but I'll write as many reviews as possible. Also, I won't let any personal feelings towards any author/publisher compromise any review I write.

Clean Sweep - Ilona Andrews

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

The concept of this story intrigued me even before I read it. From the moment I started, I could not stop untill I finished this story! The story is laced with a big dose of humor. The mix of sci-fi andd urban fantasy is thrilling. Dina is such an endearing character. Dina is humorous, she is strong, she has magic, and she knows how to wield it. Additionally, she has a haunted house, a magic broom, and a devil dog on her side. The bunch of alien characters is just as amusing and somehow completely fits with the story. The characters are well-written, especially the female lead. There is strong, intelligent female; complicated, alpha males and imperfect but lovable characters. The plot continues to thicken as the story moves on. Another bonus point is that the author pair has avoided any stereotypes. The chemistry in the love-triangle between the characters is hot. Oh and the graphic images in this book are a yummy treat!
I would have wanted to see the romance progress a bit more but I'm happy(not!) to be waiting for the release of the sequel.

Caldenia descended down the stairs and saw him. "Ooo. Planning a kinky morning?"
"No, just dealing with a pesky intruder."
"Oh well. If you kill him, do save me his liver. Werewolf liver is a very tender delicacy." She licked her lips. "Especially when sautéed in butter."

"Why are you helping them?"
"Because the safety of the inn and its guests is now in jeopardy."
"And the fact that both of them are heartbreakers has nothing to do with it?"
"They are very nice to look at. But the dahaka [monster] threatened me in my own house. That I will not tolerate."

"Mhm," Arland said. "I have spent my spare time studying literature popular with young women
of this planet. One should always study the battlefield."
Sean glanced at him. "And?"
"I suggest you give up now. According to my research, in a vampire-werewolf love triangle, the
vampire always gets the girl."
