The Romance Addict
I'm a student from Kolkata, India. I was barely 3 yrs old when I first read a book and since then there has been no stopping me when it comes to books.I'm not just obsessed about books.I have other hobbies(skating, painting) and ambitions(I'm studying to be a comp sci. engineer and someday make my parents really really proud of me).But BOOKS are something I have always been passionate about. I've learned so much from them.Reading a book is like entering a whole new world.It gave me dreams, hope and friends. And IMO, there is nothing else that someone needs when they have a great book with them. Ok, say maybe I'm a little obsessed. Reading has given me so much. So, I figure writing reviews on the books I read is my way of thanking the community. It is something I can give back. It is my way of helping the authors & publishers so that they keep writing & publishing wonderful books. I don't promise to always write a review for every book I read or as soon as I read, but I'll write as many reviews as possible. Also, I won't let any personal feelings towards any author/publisher compromise any review I write.
Shadowland
This book is a about a teenage girl who is a mediator, i.e. a liaison for ghosts and spirits. She can see, hear, touch and talk to ghosts unlike other normal people. She wants to be normal for the sake of her sweet and caring mother but it seems fate has other plans. She moves to California from New York when her mother remarries. She not only gets a new step-dad, and three step-brothers but also has to share her room with a centuries old ghost, who is admittedly cute. Her new school's principal is also a mediator but views it as a gift unlike Suze. He is quite cool for a principal and father but he strongly discourages her mediator techniques. Amidst this all she has to prevent an ex-student who is now a ghost from trying to kill everyone in her new school and send the ghost away. While she is fighting, she also falls a little for the cute ghost who haunts her bedroom and keeps saving her!I loved Suze! She is smart, witty, courageous and totally kickass. The story is entertaining and charming in true Meg Cabot form. Ms Cabot's work in the YA genre is quite refreshing including this one in particular. Another great fact about the story is the absence of angst. Generally, in YA books there is a lot of angst, which is pretty much why I don't like YA genre much!
